Conversations with clients often lead to, “When I Retire….” This would be fine if they were 62 but often they are much younger.
- When I retire, I will do something I really love
- When I retire, I will change that hobby into a business
- When I retire, I won’t have to complain about work anymore
- When I retire, I will like getting up in the morning
What does that say to you? To me, that tells me that they don’t love what they do right now and they wish they could be doing something else BUT they don’t think they can do anything about it UNTIL they retire. And retirement could be 20 or more years away!
Why would you spend most of your life hating what you do every day?
Why would you dread Mondays and wish you could sleep in or go somewhere else?
If fear is holding you back, while at the same time you are totally unhappy, let’s think about changing that. This has been a tough economy but every week or so I get a call from one of my clients reporting finding new career opportunities.
My client success list that I started tracking in August includes multiple fields — banking, marketing, healthcare, engineering, insurance, and manufacturing, multiple ages, 22 to 50+, and multiple levels, entry level to upper management! I don’t hear from everyone I work with so there are more success stories I missed.
I love what I do, writing value-rich resumes and helping people find fulfilling work that blesses others and their families. I don’t even plan to retire. If you are spending your days waiting for life to begin after retirement, let’s chat.

Julie, you have hit the nail on the head! Designing a life that is fulfilling right now is the best way to live. And creating the perfect resume in order to position yourself for the right career move it the best way to start!
Excellent post!
Thank you, my friend. I just told someone that I think people should be deliriously happy with what they are doing… or look for something that makes them feel that way. Too many people live their lives on the brink of despair. Struggles don’t go away but your attitude does change what affects your life.
The mentality of saving everything for retirement never made sense for me… there’s no guarantee u’ll even make it to retirement. I believe in doing what u love now, and be conservative in spending so u still have some left for retirement… but life is too short to spend it doing what u hate everyday

You have all that right, Henway… there are no guarantees that you will live that long or that you will have the mental or physical ability to do what you want when you are retired. Make every day count!
