The secret to getting calls and offers from employers

Are you only seeing stop signs in your job search? Would you like to know how you can start getting calls and turn those stop signs into offers?

One of my clients touched base yesterday to let me know she starts her new position on March 1.

“It seems that the job was destined for me as they were looking for a person for almost a year,” she said.

I knew she was evaluating two offers and mentioned her search in my post, “Are you underestimating LinkedIn?”

I congratulated her and then we talked about how she achieved this success in her job search.

Out of the 6 positions she applied for, she had 3 interviews and 3 offers. She reads this blog regularly and was willing to share some of her success tips with you.

Captivating LinkedIn Profile

We wrote her LinkedIn profile capturing her accomplishments and embedding her keywords into the profile. She was active on LinkedIn, answering questions, and she researched to find the positions on LinkedIn. She applied online via LinkedIn but she immediately followed up with the online application with contacts to team members with key positions in the companies that she researched on LinkedIn.

Her success tips to getting calls

  1. Be very targeted, if you don’t have a target … and you are just spreading resumes in the wind. Your search is not going to be very fruitful. You need to know what it is that you want.
  2. You need to understand where the needs are in what industries cause at some point you will need to prove it.
  3. There is a setting in LinkedIn to show your profile when you visit other profiles. Go to Privacy settings and Select:
    Profile Viewing options
Select what others see when you’ve viewed their profile.

Targeted Cover Letter with follow-up

  1. The resume was selected because I wrote a cover letter. They said if the cover letter said only I saw you and please review my resume, they weren’t bothering to open the resume. (Note: we crafted a very targeted cover letter my client customized for every application .)
  2. It helped that I followed up with the application. The company had a two week lag in e-mail reading.
  3. You need to be a professional all the time. It creates your image and eventually your money!
People that dismiss the power of Google are very wrong. I always Google the people that contact me for interviews to find out their history. I bet they do the same with me.

The results: Getting Calls

“In the end I had more calls than ever in my life!” Perhaps some of her secrets will help you obtain that same level of success.

I always learn something new here. Is that LinkedIN feature a paid upgrade, or is it somewhere in the hidden settings? The one that will show your profile when you visit other profiles?

Good points, Michael. It is free and I just edited the post to give more directions. Give it a try. Check how you are letting LinkedIn notify you too. You will find a wide variety of options.
