Should you be reading to move ahead in your career?

Are you reading to stay ahead in your career?

As a career professional, I need to stay on the top of my game. On a given day depending on client load, I read and review multiple things. Some of readings will be in a paper newspaper, hard cover books, and magazines.

Much of what I read is online. This morning, I shared multiple things on my networks. I realize perhaps some of my job seeking readers never think about how critical it is to stay on top of their game.

Why reading is critical to job seekers and entrepreneurs

As a job seeker, your reading may be very different from mine. Yet, you need to broaden your  horizons to make yourself more marketable. If you are an entrepreneur, you should be constantly reading to learn how to lead in your profession.

Learn to discern the thought-leaders and use the power of Google to get you connected with leaders in your industry. You can find them everywhere these days, on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+.

Thanks Julie for referencing this post and pointing your readers in my direction.

The feeling is absolution is absolutely mutual with the work and valuable resources you provide!

Thank you, Hannah! I actually missed this post the first time out – or I think I missed it! I love having thoughtful, well-read colleagues like yourself to glean even more valuable career information to use.

And *I* am finally catching up on my reading for the week. I love this because it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, reading opens your mind to all sorts of new ideas and creative thinking. One of my very favorite questions to ask in an interview is, “What are you reading right now?” The answers are VERY telling. When someone tells me they don’t have time to read because they’re busy working (I hear this A LOT), I know they’re not the right fit for us.

So delightful that we share similar thoughts on so many things, Gini! Happy almost Birthday! One of my goals is to get back into books this year. Both the paper variety and using my new Google Nexus 7, I am reading more too. Jim Rohn on the Nexus and Zig Ziglar in hardcover.

If you need any fiction recommendations, let me know! I read a ton of it. In fact, off to read now. Night, night!
