What are your actionable goals for 2014?

What are your actionable goals for 2014?This is the time of year that people think about goals and resolutions and I do too. However, I believe in actionable goals, not New Year’s resolutions. I think people too often think of the New Year as the only time they think they can make a resolution. The problem with this is that most people don’t make it very far and then they break their resolution.

What if you call them actionable goals instead of resolutions?

Resolutions come from off the words “I resolve.” For far too many people, they see a break of that resolution to lose weight or to stop smoking as the end. You can set actionable goals at any time. The best goals include attainable steps to reach a larger goal or a number of smaller goals that lead to another.

You don’t have to wait until January 1 to start your goal. You can create new goals every day if you want. I set goals all year-long about many things.

What is the value of setting actionable goals?

When we consciously think about things and write them down, especially if we write those goals in steps, we are more likely to work at attaining them. When you give yourself permission to create new goals, you challenge yourself and you become motivated to do more.

Complacency is very common today. We tend to just be satisfied with the way it has always been until we have a reason to make those changes.

What are your actionable goals for 2014?

Think deeply about what you want to make happen. Find the steps.

  • I want to continue to decrease my debt. How will I do that? I have created budgets to tell me what bills to pay and keep me on track. I study these regularly and I give myself little challenges to decrease certain amounts to reach the next level.
  • I like challenges and I like goals. I have goals to declutter the paperwork that tends to take over. This goal would be ridiculous without action. So I have recently added 15 minutes of decluttering to my daily lists and I see visible success in the stored baskets and boxes.

If your goal is to find a new job in 2014, I can help you with that. We create an “actionable” plan and the career marketing materials, including your resume, LinkedIn profile, cover letter and more to help you position yourself to reach your goal.
