If your creativity disappeared, should you change jobs?

If your creativity disappeared, should you change jobs? You came into the job with gusto! You were creative, innovative, and full of excitement. You saw opportunities to use your talents to benefit the company. But slowly your creativity disappeared and your job became mundane. Your ideas that the management had praised in the beginning are overlooked and passed by while lesser ideas get implemented quickly.

You begin to think the problem is you. Have you lost your touch? Has your creativity and innovation gone away for good? You find going to work a chore and you would rather be absent.

Is it time to change jobs?

It is definitely time for deeper analysis. Should you change jobs? Maybe. You need to figure out if the opportunities you saw in the beginning are truly out the window and there is not a sign of any future for you. It is easy to think that you are the one who is lacking, that you can’t cut it, or you are coming up short. This makes you feel inadequate and perhaps a bit impaired.

What if it isn’t you? What if the company is not able to share your vision? What if office politics have gotten in the way of trying your innovative ideas? You may still be the fireball that you were before with the same gifts and talents well qualified to make big changes. You might just be in the wrong place.

At this point, you may be wise to change jobs. Carefully evaluate your options and figure out what companies are more open to innovation. Who would benefit from someone who is as qualified, skillful, and experienced in your area of expertise? What company has a reputation for knowing the score, having the right stuff, and is willing to take dynamite new ideas and carry out their execution? When you discover that company, it is time to change jobs.
