How to help your college student win a great job

How to help your college student win a great job You want your college student to win a great job. After investing major dollars to educate your son or daughter, you really hope they will land the job of their dreams.

You figure the college will take care of making sure they get the job. But that doesn’t always happen.

Will your college student find work?

Sometimes yes. But not always. My clients range from students to top executives.

Today, Black Friday, I worked with two young women whose parents, both former clients, bought them a career marketing package.

I worked with multiple students this year whose parents felt that they would benefit from working with me.

My interactive coaching style allows me to get a better understanding of the goals and dreams of the college student while also finding ways to help them better understand job search.

I love working with all my clients of every age but it is fun for me to be a part of these young lives and give them some pointers as they get going into the career world.

Is your college student equipped with the best job search strategies?

I highly recommend that everyone combines a value-filled resume with a comprehensive, keyword-focused LinkedIn profile. When I work with individuals, our collaborative one-on-one video sessions open the door to helping the individual understand how much job search has changed and how to use today’s systems effectively.

One of the issues many people struggle with is a misunderstanding that their job search stops when they hit submit. The reality is that job search doesn’t stop with the application. The proactive job seeker will look for ways to find connections who can help them win the next job.

Other job seekers think that the law of averages applies. If you apply to enough jobs, you will win a new job. Not necessarily. Sometimes volume equals sloppy job search. I believe in targeted job search that focuses on roles that you really want in the industry you want.

All I want for Christmas is a great new job

Many of the students I am working with are seeking internships during college even before they look for the job after college. I give them an edge to get an internship with the company they desire. Perhaps the best gift you can give this Christmas is help with their job search.
