My 3 Words for 2022
This is an annual exercise: determining my three words for the year. The concept started in 2006 with Chris Brogan, Chief of Staff, speaker, author, strategic advisor, storyteller. This is his definition of his concept of My 3 Words from his latest 2022 article:
What is My 3 Words About?
The My Three Words idea is simple. Choose 3 words (not 1, not 4) that will help guide your choices and actions day to day. Think of them as lighthouses. “Should I say yes to this project?” “Well, does this align with my three words?”
Chris Brogan’s My Three Words for 2022 are:
Scout | Co-Create | Pluses
My Business Advisor and Web Developer, Raul Colon, and a friend of Chris Brogan’s writes a very introspective article each year on his choice of 3 Words for the New Year. As he says:
3 Words to Serve as a Compass Throughout The Year
His 3 words for 2022 are:
Higher | Endorse | Accommodate
My 3 words versus New Year’s Resolutions
Someone asked a question about resolutions on LinkedIn recently. I commented that I don’t do resolutions on New Year’s eve because all year round I am evaluating and goal-setting. I mentioned in my comment that I am very metrics-oriented. Possibly annoyingly so if anyone actually knew what I check and how often.
I have a spreadsheet dating back to 1995 with a sheet for every month. This historical record monitors what we spent, what we owe, and what is due as well as a number of other statistics. This allows me to see progress. I check Google Analytics daily as well as Mail Chimp when I send out an article to my email list. Look to the bottom of this article to see how you can join the elist.
My 3 Words for 2022
I thought about my words for 2022 during the last month. Here is the final answer:
Compassionate
Our world has suffered much. Particularly since Covid but really since social media changed from something fun to a weapon. I will work harder to be more compassionate and I will pray that many others join me. The ramping of meanness about every topic under the sun is amplified by being able to speak to millions online with a computer, phone, or tablet. Let’s work together to show compassion to others and be kind.
Determined
The word determined fits the deliberate way I have worked since the end of 2009 to build my business, Design Resumes, adding products and services to help job seekers, in particular, and people, in general, reach their goals and follow their dreams.
Susan Barker, my former client, and new Executive Coaching partner has long said that I am much more than a resume writer. I hope to make this more evident in 2022. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Susan yet, let me quote from her website: “I help corporate leaders succeed in their business goals and in the way they think about how to connect that to their purpose.”
Evaluate
Rounding out my three words, I selected evaluate. I do measure what is working and what is not working. I hope to continue evaluating and analyzing my process and how I work with my clients as well as how I deliver services in 2022. I am also evaluating while decluttering. This will be a longer process and I will let you know how that goes in the future.
My 3 Words History:
Writing this article was fun from start to finish. I was especially entertained by the way adding the links created the snapshots for the other articles. Technology continues to amaze me and intrigue me. In 2022, I will also share more technology-focused articles based on things I have learned (and evaluated)
