When you think you want to quit your job
Should you go or should you stay? Yes, No, or Maybe. When you are trying to decide if you should quit your job, stay where you are, or do something totally different, you may feel like a roll of the dice makes more sense than anything else. Yes, No, or Maybe.
Do you want to quit your job?
There are times in your life when you aren’t sure what to do. Life is frustrating as it is, but you don’t have a clear destination in mind for the future either.
You think it is your job driving you crazy and it well could be but your perspective is skewed. It’s hard to see the complete picture by yourself.
Sometimes people decide it is the job without fully looking at all the factors in their life. You might quit your job because you are convinced it is the cause. The problem with quitting is that it adds another layer to the problems you are facing.
Without a job, your financial future may be in jeopardy. If you land the wrong new job, your problems may just continue.
Don’t over-react — instead be proactive!
Acting out of frustration and severing ties, burning bridges, and closing doors can exacerbate the situation. As tempting as it may be to throw in the towel and quit your job, don’t do that. Instead, choose to be proactive.
Being proactive means that before you do something rash like quitting your job, create a plan. Your plan may include getting a professionally prepared resume to help you define your value and clarify your direction. You may need some career coaching even before writing your resume to decide which direction is a good one for your future and to see what is the core of the problem.
Today you can use many tools to change direction. LinkedIn adds another layer to career marketing, but it is a tool that needs some serious study to be effective. Many people seem to think that just being on LinkedIn is a magic cure for what ails them but an ineffective and poorly completed LinkedIn profile can seriously harm your reputation online.
If you are not sure what to do, this is the time to go slow and figure it out. If you can’t do it alone, there are experts who can help you through the challenges of job search or career change.
