How to make your birthday a new beginning!

birthday a new beginningEveryone feels differently about birthdays. Some people hate to acknowledge that they have them, especially once they reach a certain age. But what if you make your birthday a new beginning? For some people, January 1 is a new beginning every year but I think we need many new beginnings each year, a chance to give ourselves the opportunity to rethink, revive, and restrategize.

July 1 is my birthday and this year for the first time I noticed that it is exactly halfway through the year. Now most people don’t have that halfway point but they can still make each birthday a new beginning. Or for that matter, they can make any day they choose a new beginning.

Whether you choose to make your birthday a new beginning or another day, the important thing is that you don’t stay stuck. When we spend time rethinking who we are and what we are doing, we can get a fresh look at how things are going. Too many times, we go into an automated way of living that assumes that nothing can change or perhaps we even become a little afraid of change.

Why new beginnings are critical to your career

In the 30+ years that I have been a professional resume writer and career expert, I have worked with so many people who are stuck in their careers. They aren’t happy anymore but they are clueless as to what they can do or change to make it different. Last month I wrote this post, “What are you willing to do to be successful?” In that post, I said that most people stop short of success. I think that is very true of many people and yet those same people struggle to go to work every day.

If you take the time to reassess where you are in your career regularly, you will see early on if there is a problem forming. While you shouldn’t obsess about the process, you should see it as a opportunity to look at what is happening and refocus when necessary.
