How to stay strong when when life hands you lemons
We all face those times when it seems like life hands you lemons. 2015 is giving me a run for my money. Keeping positive is challenging when it’s all on me.
What do you do when life hands you lemons?
- I start with prayer. God is never far away. It isn’t popular to be a Christian these days but I don’t know how I would have survived this long without Him in my life. I ask for the direction and then try to stay positive and follow His lead.
- Ask for support (and prayers) from my friends. Sharing my job search content gets my information in front of more people, which leads to more business.
- Keep your attitude positive. I know that job seekers suffer from the same fears and worries that I do as an entrepreneur so I write many posts about attitude.
- Stay visible. It is easy to want to hide under a blanket when life hands you lemons.
- Job seekers may not recognize that they are marketing. The product is the job seeker and on all fronts (resume, LinkedIn, social media, and interviews) your image must represent what you are marketing.
When life hands you lemons, it is tough to overcome? I understand.
If you are worried about being too old for a job search, you can stop worrying if you have a viable network. The people who struggle in job search at any age are those who only apply online. Be willing to reach out and tell someone your needs. Understand that to find a new role, you need to leverage people inside the companies. The tools are there. LinkedIn can tell you who is connected to the company you desire. But you have to get out of the your comfort zone and make a phone call.
