Have you seen the new LinkedIn Endorsement feature?
How LinkedIn reminds you of the endorsement options for your connections
The LinkedIn Endorsement uses the key words for skills in their profile to select what categories they should receive endorsements. Most of them will be spot on and others will not. For example, a counselor friend of mine’s profile suggested I might want to endorse him for the skill “adult.” That seemed a little too broad for me. I opted to endorse him for Adult Counseling instead.
How to select who to give a LinkedIn endorsement
As valuable as being endorsed may seem, you may wonder why people who have no first hand knowledge of your work might endorse you. LinkedIn has made it so easy to endorse someone, it is not much different from clicking like on Facebook. You may take that seriously too but I can guarantee that there are plenty of people who just “like” away without thinking about it.
Ask yourself though, would you rather someone without first hand knowledge of your skills endorsed you or would you rather they complained about you. I’ll take a yes any day over a no. There are plenty of negative people who only talk about a business or person negatively and I will take a positive endorsement any day over a whiner who complains about everything everywhere.

Thank you, Julie, for providing a very thorough summation of this new LinkedIn feature. I love (most) changes done by LinkedIn, as I think it has improved so much over the years I’ve used it, first as a recruiter and now as a job search consultant. This blog post is spot on!! Very helpful….
Thanks, Lisa, it has improved and the new look is actually much better too. Like all things, we need to change things up at times to allow new strategies to open the doors to new opportunities. Thanks for stopping by!
