Are you waiting too long to create your quality resume?

Someone I spoke with on January 12 this year just sent me a LinkedIn Message in June to let me know that out of the blue a key company in her market contacted her with a position and she is not confident enough to send her current resume. She knows my business model is a process but could I just review her current resume and what would I charge?

Why waiting too long could make you lose a job

My answer:

My business model is a process and it is designed to position my clients for success. I don’t review resumes because I can’t adequately provide the right advice to make you successful with a brief review. I have been swamped all year and I am currently booking for the week of 6/27.

While I always welcome new clients and need them, I have learned that I can’t change my process or try to add to the outside projects I already have waiting (text resumes, cover letters, reference pages) for existing clients.

I can possibly suggest one or two other talented writers but I don’t know their schedules or current workflow. They would have different processes and business models but their deadlines could still be out there. Let me know if you want me to check with them. You would negotiate pricing directly with them.

Normally when this happens, I suggest the client submit the existing resume and then the new one when done but I am too far out to be able to do that and have it in their hands. It would be very late June or most likely July if you got onto my schedule today. Sorry, I think we would have had a great working relationship. ~Julie

She would have been a great client but she didn’t think her budget could support the investment back in January. You may be assuming that the window is wider than it is but if you are waiting too long to get started, you may lose out on a great job.
