How to prevent fear from driving your career
Our times seem to let fear win. I want to teach you why you should prevent fear from driving your career and how to do it.
What does fear driving your career mean?
If you determine that outside forces are the reason for you not getting the job you want, you are letting fear drive your career — and probably your life.
What outside forces?
- Economy
- US Election
- Weather
- Time of Year
- Age
You name it. People find reasons that things aren’t working and they blame those things. The economy takes a dip and panic sets in, you will never find a job. Someone other than your candidate was elected and you assume things will go bad. It is storming. No one hires at Christmas time. You’re too old.
I could go on with more outside forces but you get the idea. People let something else drive their career, their job search, their businesses, and their lives.
Why prevent fear from being your career driver?
Fear is counterproductive. When it wins, you lose. If you assume that the factors above are the ones you aren’t succeeding, you will fail. You gave outside forces permission to drive your career.
Fear is powerful. It takes over and pretty soon we can’t see straight.
How do you prevent fear?
You stop fear or prevent fear from driving your career by moving forward without letting those factors rule your life.
The economy goes up and down continuously. Throughout the last big recession, I saw clients win new jobs. They prepared with strategic job search tools. Their resume was value-driven and they took a proactive approach to job search.
There have been many elections. Life goes on. Focus on forward and do your part to make life better for others around you.
Sunny days, rainy days, or snowy days all give you an opportunity to keep going.
Holiday parties and Christmas dinners are the perfect time to get to know more people who can help you reach your goals.
Many of my successful clients are between 50 and 60. They win great jobs! One 60+ is now President of a company. Don’t assume you will fail. If you do, you already have failed.
