What do you hope 2017 will bring you?
Every new year brings something. What do you hope 2017 brings you?
When I focus on a new year, I see it as a beginning point and a chance to reevaluate what I have done and where I have gone. I don’t see the new year as the only time that I can do reevaluation though. Instead I regularly analyze just about everything to see what I can change to get where I want to go.
Do you want to know one of my biggest goals?
In 1992, when we bought this house, I knew I hated – really hated – the kitchen! The kitchen had so much wrong with it then and all we could afford was a band-aid since the remodeling plans for this house that we bought to remodel and resell had bigger priorities.
We did many things to upgrade the house but the kitchen always got sidelined. We’ve even installed two furnaces in this house, two air conditioners, and two gas fireplaces because the first ones we installed needed replacement before we could tackle the kitchen.
My sons were 5 and 6 when we moved in, this year they turn 30 and 31. The youngest, Dan, is now a contractor with his own house he is remodeling. But with creative financing, we found a way to finance my kitchen. Dan ordered the new cabinets and counter tops before Christmas and they will be here in about 4 weeks.
It is a total gut and redesign, one of the reasons it was sidelined in the past. I didn’t want to settle for less than what I visualized. The demolition will start in mid-January and Dan is acting contractor. My husband, a retired remodeling contractor will help. I look forward to having a new kitchen finally sometime this year, hopefully by Easter. I didn’t wait patiently. I’ve told people my kitchen made me feel like I was camping.
Is there a goal you set aside you hope 2017 will bring?
I’m willing to invest in the kitchen now because I don’t want to wait until I am too old to enjoy it. I will be 61 this summer and while I have no plans to ever retire, I don’t want to spend my life wishing and hoping.
Many job seekers do just that. They want something different but are afraid. Maybe they don’t know how to reach their career goals but they are afraid to pay for help. So they will sideline their goals and settle for less.
What will you do to reach your goals in 2017? Don’t just hope 2017 will bring you want you want, make it happen!
