How to prepare for the next crisis
The next crisis? Yes, there will be one. Guaranteed.
How do I know? It happens to me too!
Why the next crisis?
Understanding that there will be a next crisis goes a long way to help you start preparing.
As an entrepreneur, I face the same concerns and a few more that job seekers face. My income is always tied to someone hiring me. There is no real certainty as to when I will be hired again. And there are the technology challenges.
Let me tell you about my most recent crisis.
This website drives people who want to either learn more about how to use better job search strategies as well as those who want to hire me to help them find their next career pathway. I need it up and running 24/7.
For the past two years, my website hosted by SiteGround. I chose SiteGround on a recommendation from a colleague who used SiteGround to host a major career website. She mentioned the 24/7 service. Most of the time, I have had very little contact with the SiteGround staff but recently the email they sent let me know that my resources could be limited.
When panic takes over
The first time I received an email telling me my resources were limited, I panicked. (Panic – That’s something job seekers do too!) But then, I remembered the SiteGround promise for 24/7 service. I reached out via chat. One of their Customer Service team members, Valentin, solved the problem and got me back up and running. Since then, the problem resurfaced. I spoke to Alexander, Kate, Miroslav, Simone, and Petar. Most of all, it never took more than a minute to connect with someone who could help me. The notes in my file allowed each person to know what had already been tried.
The crisis may not be over but I have experts in my corner to help me.
What to do to prepare for the next crisis
Finally, as an employee you need to realize that no job is forever. When you recognize this, you know you must be ready for changes. I work with many people who sought me out because they come from companies with ongoing or upcoming merger/acquisitions. Whether it is a merger/acquisition, company shut down, or global recession, be prepared for changes.
How?
- Make sure you have a current resume
- Be present with a strong LinkedIn profile
- Keep networking throughout your career
- Hire an expert! I would be lost without my SiteGround experts!
