Refocus! Everything won't always go your way

Refocus! Everything won't always go your wayBumps and bruises seem to come with life but the ability to refocus and regroup is always an option. You can take your failures and frustrations and let them dictate your mood. Or you can turn it around, refocus and move on.

Refocus your direction

When you direct your energy toward the negative, you can get lost and lose track of your goals. When you direct that energy to the positive, you can gain new perspective and often find a different way to reach the end goal.

Refocus your ears

In this day of instant information, it is easy to be affected by bad news or negative feedback and it is hard to make it disappear. When you find yourself disappearing into reading Facebook posts or comments that feed negative energy, try listening to something positive.

  • Watch a funny video
  • Listen to good music
  • Go outside and listen to the birds, the wind, or even the silence.

Refocus your mind

I read fiction. It relaxes me as I follow a plot and see how the author will tell the story. I’m a fan of cozy mysteries, slightly humorous mysteries with everyday characters that you can easily relate to as they take you through the story. No matter what else isn’t working, a good book will distract me.

With 30+ years of working with people who are trying to land a new job, change careers, or gain a promotion, I understand that many times frustration takes over. When you add in the challenges of family issues, financial challenges, health problems, or even death in the family, the tendency to let those things take over make it hard to keep your focus on the positive. If you take time to refresh yourself with some of the tips above, you may be able to feel better about the future.
