How to stop making excuses for your career failure
Are you ready to stop making excuses for your lack of success in your career? You haven’t reached the career goals you wanted, you haven’t hit the financial goals you set early in your career. How much time have you put into actually trying to reach those career goals?
When you stop making excuses for not being successful and stop giving yourself an out, you are more likely to make progress. The excuses make it easier for us to feel comfortable and fall into a pattern. Only when you recognize that you are stuck and stop making excuses are you able to make palpable or noticeable progress in reaching career goals.
Stop making excuses – what excuses are you using?
- I can’t change jobs because there are no jobs out there. Really? People change jobs every day and many of them change into better fitting jobs and better paying jobs. Stop making excuses!
- I feel unappreciated at work but I don’t think there are opportunities for anyone my age, with my education, with my skills… fill in the blank, with my ______________. Despite your hesitation and excuses, there are people your age with your level of education and your skills getting hired every day. Stop making excuses!
- I will never be promoted. Promotions only go to the people in the “in-crowd,” no one sees what I do. Promotions go to people who demonstrate their value. Stop making excuses!
- I messed up in the past, I will never get a better job. You can move beyond your failures but you have to work hard and demonstrate that you are better than the person in the past. Stop making excuses!
When you stop making excuses, you can visualize the next step
What resources and opportunities are you missing because you have spent your whole life making excuses for the reasons you have not reached your goals? Stop making excuses and spend your time filling yourself with positive motivation, surround yourself with people who have a positive outlook.
