What obstacles are in the way of your next job?

What obstacles are in the way of your next job?Obstacles are a hazard we face many times in life. How we handle the obstacles and how we even acknowledge will define whether we succeed or fail. In job search, it is no different.

How do you overcome obstacles in job search?

The first clue is whether we know they are there. You would think that if a roadblock is sitting there in your way you would notice but many times people don’t see them at all.

  • OBSTACLE of How you search — For many people, the total focus is online applications. This is a piece of the job search but not the totality. You need to look beyond the online applications and job boards. Leverage LinkedIn to find connections outside your immediate friends or work.
  • OBSTACLE of No changes  — even when you are presented with better alternatives or new ways of doing things, some people prefer to sit with the way it has always been. Be willing to try a new strategy or method to achieve the goal. Make your resume stand out or get going on LinkedIn.
  • OBSTACLE of Fear  — Fear is huge and often paralyzing. Whether you are hoping to move internally, transition to a higher role in a new company, or trying to find a job when you lost yours, fear can get in the way of any movement. Acknowledge the fear and then find ways to overcome it. If your fear is networking, start with little steps. Start by reading information from career industry experts and learn what options may be out there. Braver step yet? Choose a partner and hire them to help you create cutting edge strategies and overcome the fear.
