When you are faced with the challenge of something you know you cannot do well yourself, you often determine that you would like help but you find it hard to think about paying for something more. So you sit on the fence… wondering. With the photo above, the following Jim Rohn quote was included:
It doesn’t matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make progress without making decisions.
Think about all the services you look at either in your daily life or in your business:
- You wonder if you should hire an accountant to do your taxes or advise your business or should you just muddle through on your own.
- Should you hire an attorney to write your will or just keep procrastinating?
- Should you repair the car, or can you put it off longer?
- The roof leaks but can you put off the repair one more year?
- Your business has been struggling for years but would working with a marketing expert really help?
- You need a new job but does working with a resume writer or career coach really help?
All these questions pop in your head:
- What if it doesn’t help?
- What if the fix doesn’t last?
- What if this is the wrong provider?
- What if I never make enough to pay for it?
Every day you are going to face hard questions. In the last year, I faced many of the above scenarios myself (well except the last one about resume writers) and I had to make hard choices. I work for me and generate the majority of our family income. I had to replace the roof, had a major car repair, retained my marketing expert, and hired an accountant. I still have to hire the attorney and there are many other projects that are looming.
People are scared to move forward and the past three or four years have not made it easy to have confidence in the economy or in your future. For me, I refuse to sit on my hands. I do my homework to make sure my providers are ones I can trust either locally or online but I am working through my goals.
Results?
- My accountant has made me confident that my business records are correct and taxes are filed properly. And he gave me some advice that saved me more than $2000 annually in unnecessary expenses.
- We paid $840 to repair the car in July and it has been running smoothly ever since.
- When my construction team rebuilt the roof, they replaced rotting plywood all around the edges, which would have created even more leaks in time. It was an $8000 investment but now we can relax knowing we won’t have any more damages.
- When I invested in Jim Connolly’s marketing mentoring in early 2010, I was able to replace the lost income from the non-profit contracts in 2010 and increase my revenue. My business has already exceeded 2010 revenues by 21+% and I have two more months left in 2011. This investment was the wisest one I ever made.
- Clients who have made decisions to work with me at Design Resumes have also succeeded in reaching their career goals with new positions and increased income.
You can say you are scared and do nothing or struggle to solve your problems by yourself. Or you can trust that by making investments into repairs, services, and assistance you will be happier and on target for your future. The choice is always yours but you should get off the fence!
