Distinguish yourself from the competition!

When you look like everyone else in the group, it is very difficult to see why you should be chosen but when you stand out or distinguish yourself from the competition, you get noticed. I find it interesting that much of the advice on resumes is how to look identical to everyone else.

  • People say you must have with a one-page resume and yet the people who succeed in job search are the ones who stand out with two or more pages of value-filled documents.
  • People say never use color in your resume. Why? You would be different if you used color. hmmm…
  • People say to use the same format, same style as everyone else.

This is the opposite advice I give my clients. Rather I suggest that you deliberately try to stand out. Not with gimmicks but with content and formatting that makes you sound and look different.
