Don’t put your eggs all in one job search basket!

I work with a wide range of job seekers. Some are totally plugged in and understand how critical networking is to the process of job search. Others seems to hang only on using the advertised listings and the job boards for openings. All their eggs in one basket!

What’s wrong with that? When you are applying only to job boards or advertised positions out there, you are competing with everyone else who is looking for a position. A job board or web site advertisement can get responses in the neighborhood of 100 to 1000+ per position. You might hit it lucky.

Did I say never use a job board?

No! I didn’t say that. Today’s job search needs a multi-pronged approach to be able to overcome the problems of competing with such large numbers of unemployed. You have to treat your job search as a sales campaign with you as the product.

You don’t want to put yourself out there in only one store. You need to explore opportunities to connect with people who might be able to get you in the door with the company you would like to have hire you. Networking! Using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and interacting with people offline are good ways to open the doors to networking.

Using targeted job boards like LinkUp and Indeed may open the door to new opportunities because of the differences of how these two boards work comparatively to the way some of the other job boards work. Below is a synopsis of what each of these boards are from their own websites.

What is LinkUp?

Jobs Direct from Company WebsitesAlways Current, Often Unadvertised, Never Fake

LinkUp is the new and unique job search engine that only lists jobs taken directly from company websites. We call them “hidden jobs” because they are typically unadvertised outside of company websites and can be difficult to find if you don’t know where to look.

When you search for a job on LinkUp, you are actually searching over 20,447 company websites. These are always current openings – if a company adds or removes a job from their website, so do we. There are never stale or out-dated listings on LinkUp.

All of our job listings are from real companies. You won’t find work-at-home scams, recruiters, or staffing agencies. You also won’t find the same job listed multiple times from different sources. We point you directly to the single source for the job – the company website. If you choose to apply to a position you do so directly to the employer.

The LinkUp goal is very simple: To build the best job site on the web.

What is Indeed?

Indeed.com is a search engine for jobs, allowing job seekers to find jobs posted on thousands of company career sites and job boards. Our tips and tools will help you search jobs.

Indeed, the most comprehensive search engine for jobs, pioneered a radically improved approach to job search. Since 2004, Indeed has given job seekers free access – instantly, in a single search – to millions of jobs from thousands of company websites and job boards. As the leading pay-for-performance recruitment advertising network, Indeed drives millions of targeted candidates to jobs in every field. Indeed was selected by Time Magazine as one of the Top 10 Websites, by PC Magazine as one of the Top 100 Classic Web Sites and by PC World as one of the Best 50 Websites. Indeed’s search engine for jobs is now a global destination in many languages.

Keep thinking of options for your job search. Diversify and don’t put all your job search eggs in one basket.
