Sometimes people ask me how long it will take to get hired. Tough question.

Let me ask you where you want to get hired?

1. What is your field?
2. What is your career level?
3. How well-known are you for your expertise?
4. Is your skill set common?
5. Are there jobs like that in your city?
6. Would you move to find a job?
7. Is your skill set in high demand?
8. Does your education match the job you want?

From my perspective, job seekers who get left behind are the ones who stopped learning when they got their first job. I am not necessarily talking about formal education. Resources abound for you to learn more about anything and grow in expertise.

Are you ready to get hired?

1. Does your resume showcase your talents for this career?
2. Have you demonstrated that you can do the job in your resume?
3. Are your keywords in line with the positions you want?
4. Did you make sure your resume uses cutting edge strategies or is it old and boring?
5. Is your LinkedIn profile complete?
6. Does your LinkedIn profile showcase your accomplishments?
7. Have you brushed up on your interviewing skills?
